Nominations for University Officers

Officers of the University, namely the Pro-Chancellors and the Honorary Treasurer, are appointed by Senate, the University’s Governing Body, for an initial period of four years and are eligible for re-appointment for one further period of four years.  Officers play an essential role in the governance of the University, chairing a number of core Committees, including Senate itself.  They are also important ambassadors for the University and participate in key ceremonial events throughout the academic year, including graduation.

Queen's University currently has two Pro-Chancellors – Dr Stephen Kingon and Dr Len O'Hagan. Dr Kingon is due to stand down as Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Senate on 31 December 2024 and, to facilitate effective succession planning, steps have been initiated to appoint a third Pro-Chancellor with effect from 1 August 2023.

Ms Orla Corr, the University's Honorary Treasurer is due to stand down from office on 31 September 2023, having completed two terms of four years. In this context, steps are now being taken to appoint a new Honorary Treasurer, to take up post with effect from 1 October 2023.

These are both honorary positions and, as such, do not attract remuneration.

In accordance with University Regulations, nominations for both roles are now being invited for consideration by the Special Committee established to oversee this process.

All nominations, including self-nominations, should set out an individual's qualifications, experience and suitability for appointment and be submitted to the University Secretary's Office, by 4.00pm on Wednesday, 24 May 2023, using the Nomination Forms below.

Please note: The names of the proposers of nominees will not be disclosed to the Special Committee.

Nominations will be particularly welcome in respect of individuals of significant standing within the local community, who have strong leadership qualities, a sound understanding of corporate governance, compliance and assurance and a successful track record at a senior level, in the private/public/third sector.  An interest in/knowledge of Higher Education, within a local, national and international context, combined with a commitment to support the University's strategy and values, is also essential.
