Dear Colleague

Following the industrial action earlier this year, a Joint Expert Panel (JEP) was established to examine the valuation of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). The JEP was tasked with agreeing the key principles to underpin the future approach of the University and College Union (UCU) and Universities UK (UUK) to the USS valuation.

The JEP published their report yesterday, 13 September. A copy of the report, as well as further information, is available at: www.ussjep.org.uk

Both UUK and UCU have welcomed this report and I echo those sentiments. I hope this report will support positive discussions between UUK, UCU and USS and is the first step towards a solution that works for all parties.

A period of consultation on the report will now follow and the University intends to play a full and active role in this consultation. The University is committed to keeping staff informed of the process and will be as transparent as possible during the consultation period. I look forward to working with our colleagues in UCU at Queen’s in securing a long-term solution to future pension reform.
