UNESCO at Queen's

Representatives from UNESCO sites and projects across the UK gathered in Belfast on 31 January to mark Northern Ireland’s connection with the UN body.

Events opened with a reception in the Great Hall, celebrating the two UNESCO Chairs in Northern Ireland – including the UNESCO Chair on Globalising a Shared Education Model for Improving Relations in Divided Societies which was awarded to Professor Joanne Hughes, Director of the Centre for Shared Education in Queen’s in 2015. The following day Queen’s hosted a colloquium where researchers could exchange best practice in the area.

Shared Education, co-led by Professor Hughes and Professor Tony Gallagher, is a Social Charter Signature Project, coming under the theme 'Research with Impact'.
