Privy Council Notes:
- Letter to attorney general: 'I have the lord president's command to inform you that upon further consideration of the amendment proposed, and yesterday agreed to, in the tobacco bill, of striking out the clause respecting the allowance of eight pounds at the seal for draught upon each hogshead, it has been thought better to let the bill return without any alteration, as the consequence of that clause standing in the bill did not appear to the lords of the council of such importance as to weigh against any risk of the bill being thrown out in Ireland upon account of the amendment - and I am to signify to you his lordship's desire that in your letter to Mr Eden you will explain to him your objection to the clause, and the inconvenience you think may result from it; acquainting him at the same time that the council here have no doubt but that, if any inconvenience is found to arise, a remedy will be provided thereto in the next session of parliament.'
