Privy Council Notes:
- Southwell to Nottingham, 26 Feb. 1704: ‘The bill against blasphemy and profaneness had £1,000 penalty added to it, which was added on this side; and the greatness of it will obstruct the bill.’ (SP 63/364, f. 80.)
‘Bills dropped this session’, 4 Mar. 1704: ‘This bill had a penalty of £1,000 added to it at our council board, which has been a fine often imposed in courts of law; but they thought it too high, especially the informer having the encouragement of half the penalty.’ (SP 63/364, f. 107.)
