Welcome and Induction 2020
Our events are open to all new and current students!
Student Wellbeing along with other support services are offering a number of events at the start of term for all new and current students. All students are encouraged to attend and take part in events when they have free time in their School timetable.
This page will be updated over the summer. Events last year included:
Look out for Student Wellbeing delivering a “Consent Camp” on the front lawn (lawn beside the Whitla Hall & Main Lanyon building)
During Welcome & Induction you will meet a lot of people. You will meet staff within your School and other students on your course. This week it's important to connect with others, and hopefully build friendships that will last through your student journey and beyond. Although it may seem daunting, many new students feel the same. Our events are designed to make it easy for you to talk with students and staff. The consent camp will be a good opportunity to have a bit of fun and talk about the issue of consent in a safe way. We hope you have some free time on your School timetable to come down and chat with us.
We all know that exercise is good for our physical health, but it is also good for our mental health. You may be coming to Queen's and already be part of a club at home, and plan to join a University club. Maybe you aren't very active and want to start? Student Wellbeing can help! Come along to have a chat with us anytime between 10am - 2pm
Acts of Kindness can make us feel good. Student Wellbeing are giving away FREE PIZZA (FOUR STAR PIZZA) from 12noon in the Student Guidance Centre HUB along with free pamper sessions. We are asking you to Give by taking part in our spin challenge and make a small donation (£1) to the Mind Your Mood Campaign at Queen's (Student led initiative)
Volunteer SU will also be present to talk through Volunteering opportunities that you might want to take part in while you study at Queen's.
Today is all about celebrating your place at Queen's and the start of your academic journey. You will be learning loads this week- getting information on your course, teaching in your Schools, rules and regulations and more. Today, you can learn more about the support services available in Queen's.
Student Wellbeing will be in the Hub, Ground Floor, Student Guidance Centre between 10am - 2pm and will be giving out free tea, coffee and snacks throughout the day.
Other events Student Wellbeing will be hosting:
We hope by this day that you have had a great Welcome Week experience, have learned more about your course, met key staff in your School and know what your timetable is for the start of teaching (and where your teaching takes place).
If you still have questions or are unsure, come and chat with the Wellbeing Staff and students who will be available 10am-2pm in the Student Guidance Centre Hub.
We hope you are able to call to try our Mindfulness taster sessions. Mindfulness is about being in the moment, noticing things around you, being aware of your emotions, and reflecting on your experiences. This leads to the ability to savour the things you enjoy and be aware of your priorities, and such self-awareness impacts positively on wellbeing.
