About us

The Centre was established within the School of Politics in 1994 with the intention of promoting research on Irish politics.

The School of Politics at Queens is a world leader in research on Irish politics and has a particular concentration of expertise on the conflict in Northern Ireland. Research, which spans both parts of the island, embraces political history, political theory, intellectual biography, the internationalism of the Northern Irish problem, electoral politics, gender, the impact of the EU, the mechanisms which have been devised in the search for peace, the significance of the Good Friday Agreement in a wider devolutionary context, as well as comparison of Northern Ireland with other conflict locations.

The School’s Centre for Irish Politics organises conferences and memorial lectures, accommodates visiting scholars, advises politicians and encourages collaborative research among staff.
