PARC Study

In the PARC (Physical Activity and the Regeneration of Connswater) study, we are investigating the effect of a new urban greenway on the physical activity of local people.  The Connswater Community Greenway (http://www.connswatergreenway.co.uk) is a £40 million investment to create a 9km linear park through East Belfast, following the course of the Connswater, Knock and Loop Rivers, connecting the open and green spaces, funded by the Big Lottery Fund.  The PARC Study (http://go.qub.ac.uk/parcstudy) is using the opportunity afforded to us by this natural experiment to evaluate the impact of the Greenway on physical activity and the health of the local population. The study is funded by the National Prevention Research Initiative (£1.1 million) and will run to 2018.
