The StepSmart Study

The StepSmart Study is funded by the UKCRC Centre of Excellence for Public Health (NI) and HSC Enabling Award (£120K).  The aim of the study is to test the feasibility of conducting a RCT to investigate the effectiveness of a pedometer competition as an incentive to encourage physical activity behaviour change in 12-14 year olds.  Physical activity in adolescence declines by 60-70% during the 10-19 years old period. Physical activity habits formed at this crucial time can often be lifelong and could have potentially long term benefits.
