Dr O’Doherty is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow based at the Centre for Public Health, Queen’s University Belfast. In April 2014, he was awarded a three year CARDI Leadership Programme in Ageing Research Fellowship. This Fellowship sets out to explore differences in trends in work related disability, and of the differences in the way people report disability between nations and across different national health and welfare service contexts. This will be achieved through the use of the Northern Ireland Cohort for the Longitudinal Study of Aging (NICOLA), the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA), and the Irish Longitudinal Study of Ageing (TILDA). This research will help Dr O’Doherty expose some implications for policy and will give older people a voice in helping shape the research and policy agenda.
