Ana is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Public Health at Queen’s University Belfast. She holds a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and is interested in preventative mental health interventions. She is currently involved in a UKCRC CoENI project that is developing and testing an upstream public mental health intervention to improve the wellbeing of patients with T2DM and sub-threshold depression, and lower the incidence of major depression. The intervention will be designed to be integrated into primary care for T2DM patients. Given that the confluence of depression and diabetes leads to poorer health outcomes and higher health care costs than either condition alone, this study will be of interest to primary care physicians and NHS policy makers.
