Arthur joined the CDT in September 2018, having previously completed a BSc (Hons) in Physics with Astronomy at Dublin City University.
For his University of Glasgow Semester 1 Mini Project, Arthur is working with Professor Robert Hadfield on:
Fibre-optic interface for waveguide circuits
The aim of this project is to test and evaluate the performance of grating couplers to efficiently couple the input light into waveguides for low temperature infrared-photons detection applications. The grating couplers will be designed with the aid of lumerical finite difference time domain software. The grating couplers will be fabricated in silicon photonic circuits in the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre (JWNC) where the optical measurements will be carried out using the low-temperature measurement facilities available at the Rankine Building at the University of Glasgow. The integration of the optimized couplers will yield towards the development of on-chip scalable optical quantum-information and computing applications at the low-loss telecommunication window.
