Daniel joined the CDT in September 2018, having previously completed a Master in Science in Mathematics at Queen's University Belfast.
For his University of Glasgow Semester 1 Mini Project, Daniel is working with Professor David Hutchings on:
Simulation and Design of Contemporary Optical Channel Waveguide Devices (1)
In this project the student will adapt an optical modesolver in order to simulate optical channel waveguides which are the focus of current research. For example, the core could be formed of silicon, silicon nitride or aluminium gallium arsenide, and the cladding could incorporate magneto-optic, electro-optic or some other anisotropic feature. The aim would be to develop promising device designs for further research.
