Kelvin Nanotechnology PhD
Company: Kelvin Nanotechnology (KNT) is a founding partner and early supporter of the establishment of CDT PIADS. KNT was set up in 1997 to provide nanotechnology services and solutions to industry, government and academia. Since then KNT has built up an extensive global blue chip customer base and has provided micro- and nanofabrication R&D, prototyping and manufacturing services to over 250 clients in 22 countries. KNT operates in a diverse range of market sectors including datacoms/telecoms, semiconductor engineering, photonics and quantum technologies and is growing with a 35% CAGR.
Location: After the training phase, the PhD project will based within the company but onsite at the University of Glasgow Campus.
Research: The success of their core business depends on being able to recruit PhD level individuals from electronic engineering, physics or materials background (preferably in integrated micro and nanofabrication) who have well developed scientific research and creative thinking skills. CDT PIADS, with its innovative and high quality doctoral training, which includes integrated micro and nanofabrication, is therefore extremely attractive KNT. The project would align to the CDT theme ‘ultra-reliable semiconductor lasers operating in hostile environments’.
KNT currently supervise CDT PIADS Student Sia – details of her project can be found here.
Doctoral Programme: PhD During the application process, use the title "EPSRC CDT PIADS KNT PhD“
Supervisory Team : Industrial Supervisor, Primary Academic and Secondary Academic
