Name of the Study:

Diet and Body Composition in Older Adults - No Longer Recruiting

Why is this Study important?:

Nutrition can play an important role in helping people to live long and healthy lives and spend less years of their life in poor health. In particular, nutrition may help to preserve muscle function and strength. We would like to try some dietary interventions that may prevent people becoming frail as they get older. Before we do this we need to gather some data on the dietary intake and muscle and fat mass of older people and we will use this data to design a dietary intervention study.

What is the Research question/aim?:

The aim of this pilot study is to gather data on dietary intake, body composition (muscle and fat mass) and some other measures of physical function from about 50 older people. This information will be used to guide the design of a larger dietary intervention

What the Study involves:

A one off visit to the NICRF to have a scan that will measure fat and muscle, complete some questionnaires and have blood pressure measured.

PPI Involvement:

N/A

Who can take part in the Study?:

Over 65s who live independently.
