Welcome to the Centre for Nanostructured Media website!
Welcome to the C entre for N anostructured M edia at Queen's University Belfast. We are one of a number of research groups here at the University, and are at the forefront of Physics research not only at Queen's University but in the UK. Our speciality is in the name - we are experts in materials science at the nano scale. Besides this, we perform a wide range of research into many topics and areas, including thin films, crystals, plasmonics, ferroelectrics, microscopy and more.
Please feel free to browse our pages, which will detail our current research, projects, latest news, staff and student contact information and biographies. You can get an insight into our work, browse our publications and patented technology, and find out if there is a vacancy for you!
15 Fully-Funded PhD Studentships Available for 2017 Entry
The Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) is a unique partnership between Queen’s University Belfast, the University of Glasgow and multiple industry partners.
The CDT aims to tackle some of the challenges created by the increasing quantities of data generated by today's society. The science of photonics, which is based around the use of light, is the foundation for many innovations in use today, from vision correction and endoscopy to telecommunications and robotics. It formed the basis for the telecommunications revolution of the late 20th century and created the infrastructure needed for the internet. The CDT programme will help to address a skills shortage in the photonics industry by educating over fifty future scientists and engineers who will explore the science and engineering of new materials, devices and concepts that support new products and systems to deal with the expanding data storage needs of today’s fast moving digital world. Completion of the programme will lead to receiving unique joint qualifications such a PhD degree offered by Queen’s University Belfast & University of Glasgow together further reinforcing your unique skills, experience and achievements.
