CNM delivers world-class research in a wide range of fields
The Centre for Nanostructured Media in Queen's is one of the universities most prestigious research centres. We undertake a variety of different areas of research, which can include individual projects or collaboration with world-leading industrial companies such as Intel and Seagate.
We currently number almost 40, including staff, postgraduates and PhD students, and we regularly have new vacancies available in new projects. Our numbers will soon be boosted again by the announcement of 10 new research positions with our Ansin project, in collaboration with Seagate. All these world-class researchers in one well-equipped centre gives the CNM a strong presence in the world of research, and attracts further investment and opportunity for oursevles and anyone looking to join us.
As already mentioned, the CNM has access to excellent equipment and processing facilities, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), focused ion beam (FIB), atomic force microscope (AFM), atom probe, superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), interferometry, surface profiler, pulsed laser deposition (PLD), magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE), sputtering, photolithography and Argon ion milling to name a few! With all of these facilities available in-house, research in the CNM really is at the top of its class.
