Development of a Geopolymer Binder from the Interbasaltic Laterites of Northern Ireland
PhD project Description
Geopolymers are new class of cements that can offer increased durability and reduced CO2 emissions when compared to Portland cement. One of the main raw materials that can be used in the manufacture of geopolymers can be found in the geology of Northern Ireland. This project looks at the effect of variation in mineralogy on the performance of the final geopolymer, with particular reference to variations seen in the geological material found in Northern Ireland. The microstructure of the various geopolymers are examined and a screening process developed.
