Seismic evaluation of cold-formed steel portal frames

Cold-formed steel structures have been known to perform well in seismic conditions and potentially could be used for disaster relief and low-cost housing; however, their seismic performance has previously not been well investigated or understood.

This is a collaborative project between industry and academia.

The project seeks to quantify the seismic behaviour of cold-formed steel portal frames, using both full-size cyclic and real-time hybrid experiments.

The research outcomes from this project will provide engineers with the ability to understand the true seismic behaviour and energy dissipation mechanism of standard channel section cold-formed steel moment resisting connections.
