What is NICOLA?

NICOLA (Northern Ireland Cohort for Longitudinal Study of Ageing) is Northern Ireland’s long term study of ageing in the over 50’s.

NICOLA collects information on many aspects of health as well as economic and social circumstances from adults aged 50 and over who are resident in Northern Ireland.  NICOLA provides a comprehensive picture of the characteristics, needs and contributions of older people in our community and helps to inform and support improvements in policy and practice.  NICOLA will allow policy makers in Northern Ireland to plan appropriate health, medical, social and economic policies to support our older adults.

Organised by the Chronic Illness and Palliative Care Research Group.
