My doctoral research involved teachers of chemistry in secondary schools in England, investigating teachers' knowledge of educational evidence, under the supervision of Dr Liam O'Hare, Dr Karen Kerr and Dr Laura Dunne. The multidisciplinary nature of CESI has offered me many valuable experiences not only within my own field but also in other fields related to education. My PhD is entitled 'An Investigation of Teacher Knowledge of and Engagement with Educational Evidence', and I successfully defended my thesis in March 2021. Ewan MacRae

I am a PhD candidate funded by DfE and supported by the LINKS project, an initiative that seeks to use effective early childhood development programmes to promote social cohesion in lower and middle income countries. Currently, I am interested in the attitudes young children hold regarding their identity, who influences it and what capacity they hold for respecting their peers from other backgrounds or with differences to themselves. I am interested in participatory methods and empowering children to use their voice and for their ideas to inform the direction of the project. Jayne Hamilton

My research entailed conducting a feasibility study through a pilot of the 'Crescendo' primary school music and social and emotional learning intervention. CESI, in collaboration with the Ulster Orchestra, the Colin and Shankill community organisations and local schools and families, is developing a programme based on the 'El Sistema' orchestral model, the first of this kind in Northern Ireland. This pilot is guided by a logic model that outlines the key components, outcomes and theories underlying the intervention. Conneth Poland
