The Ayrshire Rivers Trust (ART) was formed in 2000 and aims to reverse the significant decline in local freshwater fish stocks through improved scientific management and long-term restoration of local rivers. The 6 main rivers in which ART focus its work on are: Garnock, Irvine, Ayr, Doon, Girvan and Stinchar.

ART aims to promote and suppot initiatives designed to conserve, enhance and develop its fisheries for the enjoyment of current and future genrations, and to preserve a valuable part of the natural heritage. In addition, ART seeks to enhance the environment in and around these rivers, both to improve fish stocks, and also to bring wider biodiversity benefits, incluing the control of invasive weeds and th conservation of water voles.
