This three-hour session will consider issues in relation to property law and conveyancing.
We will look at many practical matters for the property lawyer to include:
- The introduction of the register of overseas entities;
- File management;
- Considering the tenure of a property;
- Preparing for the worst - lessons from the 2007/8 property crash;
- The solicitor’s interaction with the property survey;
- Responsibilities for the solicitor in the UK Finance Handbook.
About the Speakers
Andrew Kirkpatrick is a solicitor with Murray Kelly Moore Solicitors in Bangor specialising in conveyancing and private client work. He joined the firm in January 2021.
Andrew qualified as a solicitor in 2002 after training in Carson McDowell Solicitors then spent 11 years in Mills Selig Solicitors in Belfast. He moved to the Law Society of Northern Ireland in 2014 and become Head of Policy. As part of that role in the Society, he was involved in the review of the Home Charter Scheme as Secretary to the Conveyancing & Property Committee.
Douglas Stevenson BL
Douglas was called to the Bar in 2009. Prior to that, he worked for 6 years as a commercial property solicitor with Carson McDowell. He regularly appears in the Chancery Court, the Commercial Court and the Lands Tribunal. He provides non contentious advice on property related matters to private clients and public bodies, including the Law Society. He represents the solicitors’ insurers in defending professional negligence actions against solicitors.
