Inauguration Symposium

Inaugural Event of Religious Studies Forum

The inaugural event of the new QUB Research Forum in Religious Studies has taken place on 10th June 2011. The event was a symposium on the theme ‘Why Justice and Rights Matter’, consisting of a lecture by the distinguished Yale philosopher Nicholas Wolterstorff, followed by a panel discussion of the lecture, in which the participants were Professor John Brewer (University of Aberdeen), Professor Stephen Williams (Union Theological College) and Professor Shane O’Neill (QUB), chaired by Professor David Livingstone, Director of the Research Forum.

Introducing the event, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the formation of the Forum as offering exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary scholarship and as enabling research collaboration between the theological colleges and the University. The Forum is hosted by the Institute of Theology and is developing plans for a wide-ranging series of events in the next academic year. Professor Hugh Magennis, Director of the Institute of Theology, said, ‘The Institute is delighted to be the home of the Forum, which is bringing together colleagues from across the University and the Colleges and can make an invaluable contribution to research culture at Queen’s.’
