Secure a Placement

As a student of Queen's Management School, part of what will give you a competitive edge in the job market is your placement year in industry, where you get the chance to put theoretical learning into practice.

Queen's is ranked in the top 170 universities in the world for graduate job prospects (QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022), partly down to our excellent careers service and dedicated QMS Placement Office.

How are students supported?

Students are supported fully along the placement process - before, during, and after - by the dedicated QMS Placement Office team, who have decades of experience in helping students develop their employability skills.

First year: Preparation begins with an induction course educating students on the placement process and the opportunities available.

Second year: Students attend pre-placement employability modules addressing key areas such as CVs and applications, interview skills and sector / opportunity awareness. One-to-one sessions are available with the dedicated QMS Placement Team for CV review and mock interviews, and students have the opportunity to hear from employers both within the modules and beyond with bespoke careers fairs dedicated to their area of study.

Third year: Students take their year out of study, and begin their placement from June onwards. They return to University the following September to complete their final degree year.

I really enjoyed my placement. My work was so interesting, working in a small yet senior team advising many different companies. Every day provided a fresh challenge and an opportunity to learn. I never got bored and everyone was so friendly. This opportunity has helped kick start my career. Niamh Quin
