Dr Heather Dickey

School of Queen's Management School

My main research interests are in the fields of applied labour economics, regional economics, and micro-econometrics. My research has focused on regional wage inequality, occupational and geographical mobility, the integration of migrants, job satisfaction, the intersection of regional inequality and migration, multiple job holding, and wage equation models. More recent research interests include the evaluation of health policy.

Open to PhD applications in:

  • Applied research in labour economics and regional economics
  • Particularly in the areas of inequality, labour mobility, migration, and policy evaluation.

Public outreach & key achievements

Findings from a funded project, ‘Eye Care Service in Scotland: Did the Scots Get it Right?’ have been reported in the media in publications such as: The Press and Journal, The Herald, The Scotsman, Daily Record, Times Higher Education, Holyrood Magazine, BBC News Scotland Online, Optometry News Today; and also in a radio interview on Insight Radio.

Findings from a funded project, ‘Working practices in the UK North Sea Oil and Gas Industry’ have been reported in the media in publications such as: The Press and Journal, The Herald, Upstream: A weekly exploration and production publication, Platform: A monthly oil and gas industry publication, Energy Current website; and also on BBC Radio.

Research collaboration with NHS Grampian (Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership) on several projects, including the role of partnership and premises ownership in the sustainability of GP practices.
