The Human Rights Centre in the School of Law was delighted to host Dr Victoria McCloud, who is a Master of the Senior Courts in the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court in London, for the Belfast Pride Law Lecture on 2 August 2018.
The Belfast Pride Law Lecture is an event organised by Lawyers with Pride. Lawyers with Pride is a group of solicitors, barristers, trainees/pupils, legal academics and law students who wish to show their support for the LGBT community in Northern Ireland.
The inaugural speaker in this lecture series was Lord Kerr of Tonaghmore, a Justice of the UK Supreme Court, who also delivered his lecture at Queen’s last year. Master McCloud is therefore the second prestigious speaker in this popular series.
The Master delivered a fascinating lecture titled “Rainbow Lives, Monochrome Laws: Reflections on Law and Identity” to a sold-out audience featuring representatives from all parts of the legal profession in Northern Ireland. The School of Law is delighted to share the text of her lecture for the benefit of everyone who was unable to attend it, and for those who wish to revisit what was said.
Master McCloud also recorded a special episode of QUB LawPod together with Conor McCormick (a Lecturer in the School of Law) and Ciaran Moynagh (a Solicitor Advocate practicing in Northern Ireland) which further explores several of the themes explored in her lecture.
