Choeung Ek

Choeung Ek

Choeung Ek, on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, is a popular site for international tourists to visit. Many of the 17000 individuals detained and tortured at Tuol Sleng were transported to Choeung Ek, where they were killed and buried in mass graves. A number of these graves have been exhumed, and the remains found displayed in a large stupa near the entrance to the site. The project team visited the site several times, listening to the audio guide, as well as meeting with staff and survivors of the Khmer Rouge period who have links to the site.
