The film centres on the warden of Halden, a prison in Norway which is recognised as one of the most humane in the world, and his experience of touring the US prison system. The author argues that in the same way that black people were targeted and disadvantaged by Jim Crow laws the current penal system in America disproportionately affects people of colour. Themes include, penal system, civil rights, justice, equality, society.
