Research Interests

- Law and technology, including topics such as media regulation (especially audiovisual and social media),
- Legal issues in the creative industries, the 'sharing economy', and the video games industry
- Open data, and Internet infrastructure and domain names.
- Further interests in constitutional and administrative law.
Public outreach & key achievements
Eisenhower Fellowship (awarded 2019, for a project on “promoting good governance to drive responsible innovation in smart cities”
Held Arthurs Visiting Fellowship at Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, working on 'disruption' to law and the future of cities (and delivering a lecture on the topic).
Book Medium Law (Routledge, 2017) exploring the application of ‘medium theory’ (including the work of Harold Innis and Marshall McLuhan) to differences between media, and how technological definitions and associated changes have legal and regulatory consequences. It has been reviewed in the Entertainment Law Review (29(3), 2018) and the European Journal of Law and Technology (2018).
Panelist for the UDRP dispute resolution mechanism for Internet domain names, provided by the Czech Arbitration Court
Ministerally appointed member of the Irish government's Open Data Governance Board.
