Maths QUBe provides a FREE program of daily maths activities for primary school children.
The Maths Academy at Queens University Belfast has been working with colleagues across the university and wider community to deliver MathsQUBe, a FREE programme of daily maths activities for primary school children.
Launched in April, you can find out more about the programme here: http://www.qub.ac.uk/about/Leadership-and-structure/Faculties-and-Schools/Engineering-and-Physical-Sciences/mathsacademy/mash/MathsQUBe/
3 times per week at 10.30am, MathsQUBe brings a new fun maths educational video which teaches children the importance of maths in our everyday lives and shows how important maths is for so many things in everyday life. The Maths Academy is asking QUB academics to support us in providing videos for children to watch, videos only need to be short 5 - 10 minute maths related fun and educational video for primary aged children, and your contributions to this initiative would be very much appreciated.
You can create the video alone or with family/pets/props to show something related to maths in your job/hobby/life.
- It can be as simple as multiplication or basic data analysis, or telling the time to attend meetings, or more complicated, like ratios
- Maybe as a fitness instructor (in your spare time!) you use angles to explain the correct way to exercise
- Or you might use fractions to measure food in a recipe
- If you are interested in fashion design or engineering you could show how taking precise measurements or estimating the cost and profit of materials is essential.
The Director of the Maths Academy, Prof Adele Marshall would like to thank Dr Felicity Lamrock and Dr Andrew Brown from the School of Maths and Physics for their video contributions, you can see their videos here:
If you have a fun maths activity you would like to create and share a video for please get in touch at email@example.com

If you don't feel like doing a video yourself, we would value your help in raising awareness of this new initiative. Please share our promotion video across your teaching colleagues, friends and children and encourage them to have a look at all the fun, interesting and educational videos created so far.
