Jenny Baxley Lee, MA, BC-DMT
Lecturer, University of Florida Center for Arts in Medicine

Jenny Baxley Lee is a lecturer at the University of Florida Center for Arts in Medicine and a board certified dance/movement therapist (DMT) with 14 years of practice in clinical and community settings. She serves as a full-time faculty member in the University of Florida Center for Arts in Medicine and has presented her work locally, nationally and internationally including at the first National Summit for Arts & Health in the Military as well as the National Centre for Arts & Health in Dublin and a statewide roundtable discussion in Tallahassee, Florida. She began DMT practice at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center at the launch of the Creative Arts Therapy clinical demonstration project in 2014. She is a member of the Academy of Research Excellence with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at UF and serves on the Research Committee in the College of the Arts. Ms. Lee is an active member of the American Dance Therapy Association and she serves on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Dance Therapy as Book and Film Review Editor.

The Linking Arts in Medicine and Nursing presentation is aimed at introducing the field of arts in medicine, identifying and promoting connections between disciplines in order to enhance person-centred care and encourage self-care among nurses. In addition, the presentation will consider ways of keeping participants safe when introducing the arts in the clinical setting. In the spirit of true collaboration, one dance/movement therapist will share a nurse collaborator’s perspective regarding the value of the arts, and the critical nature of participant safety using the arts in the care environment. The aim of the presentation is to demonstrate the value of mindfully engaging nursing and clinical care staff in a partnership to provide the optimal care experience when engaging in creative activity with patient populations.

RSVP Amber Mulholland, School of Nursing and Midwifery by 12.00 noon on Monday 16 May 2016 via tel (028) 9097 2085, or email: amber.mulholland@qub.ac.uk
