'Queen's University Belfast School of Nursing and Midwifery awarded Burdett funding to evaluate new tool for applicant screening'.
The School of Nursing and Midwifery, in a project led by Dr Marian Traynor, is working with Belfast-based Identity Exploration Ltd to develop an innovative test of the values held by applicants to nursing programmes. There is a national concern that nurses and midwives should bring appropriate values to their profession and this has led to a requirement for Values Based Recruitment to both nursing and midwifery programmes. The test, known as Nurse Match, assesses the values held by applicants matched with those held by exemplary practitioners. A pilot was completed in 2016 in conjunction with the School of Nursing and Midwifery to assess the validity, reliability and feasibility of the test and we are now running a further study for all applicants to Nursing and Midwifery in Northern Ireland. The study is particularly interested in the feasibility of Nurse Match to identify suitable applicants to nursing who have the care and compassion to build a skilled and competent workforce to lead the nursing profession in Northern Ireland.
