Research Title: Using Experience-based Co-design with family carers of individuals living with Dementia and healthcare staff to improve experiences of attending the Emergency Department
Research Interests: Co-Design, Dementia Care, Emergency Care
Supervisors: Dr Gillian Carter, Dr Olinda Santin, Professor Kevin Brazil, Dr Adrienne McCann
My project is focused on understanding the experiences of dementia care in the emergency department, allowing for identification of improvement priorities and co-designing of solutions. Mixed methods will be used to gather multiple data types in parallel, which will then be analysed and the results fed back to co-design groups where participants will prioritise service improvement priorities. Persons living with dementia, informal carers for those with dementia and healthcare staff working in the emergency department will be interviewed and involved in the co-design process. An online survey on dementia attitudes and knowledge will complement interview data and allow for development of targeted solutions.

Poster presentation at QUB SoNM Research Showcase - 2019
I completed a BSc (Hons) Human Biology in 2013 from QUB and worked in the pharmaceutical regulatory industry before returning to QUB and completing Adult Nursing BSc (Hons) in 2019. I have been interested in the research process throughout my studies and was determined to work in the emergency department when I completed my nursing. I applied for the current project as the subject area closely matched my professional and research interests.
I play the violin and piano, both largely self-taught as an adult. I enjoy reading, with a focus on classic books. I also enjoy walking my dogs when the weather is dry.
