Dr Ruane-McAteer's research focusses on men’s health, illness experience, sexual and reproductive health and rights, including health inequalities.

The objective of this research is to explore the role of masculinities in illness and develop an understanding of the ways in which masculinity can be used to positively influence health outcomes for all.

Dr Ruane-McAteer is currently working with Professor Maria Lohan and team on conducting a systematic review on engaging men in sexual and reproductive health and rights.
