Dr Loreena Hill
RESEARCH THEME
Chronic Illness and Palliative Care
RESEARCH FOCUS
Loreenas research has focused on patients’ and family members’ choice and decision-making at the end-of-life concerning an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator. Results from my PhD highlighted a lack of information provided pre-implantation and professional reluctance to broach the subject of deactivation, with discussions occurring “too little, too late”.
Funding from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and under the mentorship of Prof Fitzsimons, has facilitated a co-design study to identify the essential components & develop an educational intervention for patients and family members.
