Is this programme for me?

Changes in health trends, policies and technologies create the necessity for health professionals to continuously re-define and improve their skills.  Designed for midwives who need to top-up their academic profile to degree level, this degree programme will enable you to build consistently on previous learning and experience and to plan a coherent programme of personal and professional development.

 

How is the programme structured?

The BSc Professional Studies in Midwifery programme provides a range of module options at Level 3 to enable you to construct a bespoke pathway of study to meet your personal and professional needs.  You choose your own pace of study - studying full-time, you should normally complete six Level 3 modules in one academic year: one core module and five optional modules (three in each semester).  A part-time course of study should be completed in a minimum of two and a maximum of five years.  Part-time students may take no more than four modules in any one academic year. 

The modules you can choose from are listed here.  Please note: modules will run each year subject to viability.  Many modules offer blended learning and varied assessment methods, to suit a variety of different learning styles.

 

What entry qualifications do I need?

Candidates must normally hold a professional qualification in midwifery and should be on the midwifery part of the Single Professional Register, maintained by the NMC, and eligible to practice midwifery.  Note: Some modules require a specific professional qualification.  Candidates must have 120 CATs points at Level 1 and 120 CATs points at Level 2 for entry to Level 3 study. Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements should contact the School for advice.

 

Practice Placements

Practical supervision will be provided in the student’s own practice area, such as in a health centre, General Practitioner Practice or family planning clinic. Students must have an identified and agreed supervisor of practice prior to commencing the programme. The placement for module MID3037 Theory and Practice of Family Planning and Reproductive Sexual Health will be negotiated with the module leader.

 

Additional Information for International Students
