The BSc (Hons) in Enhanced Neonatal Studies degree programme can be completed in two academic years as a part-time course of study.

 

Programme Aim

The degree programme aims to build upon and enhance existing academic and clinical skills and to develop these to a level, which enables practitioners to make higher clinical judgements.

 

Programme Outline

This degree programme comprises five modules equating to 120 CATs at Level 3: three core modules and two optional modules. The degree programme provides a range of module options to enable students to construct a programme of study to meet their personal and professional needs and to further develop the qualities necessary to practice as a senior nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care setting.

 

Duration

Part-time students should normally complete five modules in two academic years.

 

Entry Requirements

Candidates must be registered on the appropriate part of the Professional Register, maintained by the NMC, and have a minimum of two years experience in the last five years in a neonatal unit. Candidates must hold a Higher Education Diploma in Nursing or equivalent.

Candidates must have 120 CATs points at Level 1 and 120 CATs points at Level 2 for entry to Level 3 study.  Candidates who already hold a degree in nursing or other relevant subject will be awarded a Graduate Diploma in Enhanced Neonatal Studies.

Practice Placements

Whilst taking the compulsory practice modules, all students must be working in a neonatal setting. In addition, a School approved mentor, who has met NMC standards (2008), will be allocated for support in the clinical area.
