As a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, my research focuses primarily on the improved detection and treatment of lung infection in patients with respiratory diseases such as cystic fibrosis (CF), non-CF bronchiectasis and COPD. We use a combination of specialist microbiology techniques and DNA fingerprinting methods to analyse the lung microbiome of patients with respiratory disease. Our goal is to translate these advances into new clinical and therapeutic approaches that will ultimately improve the lives of patients.
As a father of three school-age children and with my wife also working full-time, I am acutely aware of the challenges involved in balancing work and family life. I have a very flexible working environment within my laboratory, with research staff and students working hours which best suit their family needs. My achievements are down to hard work with maintaining a healthy-work life balance and taking time out with family key to success in both work and family live.
