Dr Aoife McGrath

School of Arts, English and Languages

Dr McGrath’s research interests include dance and politics, performance and philosophy, collaborative creative processes, and cultural and affect studies. Book publications include her monograph, Dance Theatre in Ireland: revolutionary moves (Palgrave, 2013), and a co-edited collection, Dance Matters in Ireland: contemporary performances and practices (Palgrave, 2018).

She co-convenes the Choreography and Corporeality Working Group of the IFTR. She is currently working on a book project on Dance and Affect, and a practice-as-research project on Dance and the Maternal.

Public outreach & key achievements

  • Recent Choreographic Work:
  • Please (2017) in collaboration with sociologist Carolyn Blair, dancer Leonie McDonagh, dramaturge Emily DeDakis, and composer Marty Byrne. This solo dance work used verbatim text from interviews with people suffering from eating disorders, giving insight into their experience of life with ED.
  • Within: Body + Time (2018) in collaboration with co-choreographer and dancer, Aisling McCormick, and produced by Accidental Theatre. A solo dance work performed by a 37-week pregnant dancer and her unborn child, exploring the experience of time during pregnancy.
