Proposed Project Title: Spatio-Temporal Analytics on Sports Data

Principal Supervisor:  Ivor Spence
Second Supervisor: Cheng Long

Project Description:

Team sports are a very important entertainment in many societies. To improve the chances of winning, experts such as coaches would naturally analyse some data related to the sports to understand the performance of the team and also an individual player.

Nowadays, with the advances of player tracking technologies, spatio-temporal data of sports (e.g., traces of the movements of players and ball in a soccer game) is being collected and as a result, spatio-temporal data analytics for sports is emerging rapidly recently both in academia and in industry.

The goal of this project is to gain a better understanding of team sports, e.g., performance of players/teams, interaction between players, and intensity of plays, by analysing the spatio-temporal data extracted from sports data.
