- Commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Ernie Fletcher of the Commonwealth of Kentucky in recognition of noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to the state (2006)
- Winner of two ‘Best Book of the Year’ Awards in 2015 (from leading scholarly journals in US and UK) for Americomania and the French Revolution Debate in Britain, 1789-1802 (CUP 2013)
- Recipient of over 25 competitively awarded research fellowships in the US and Europe
- Founding Chair, American Studies Department, University of Groningen, The Netherlands (2001-2017)
