You know that motivating your students, ensuring their best in exams and helping them relate their learning to real life can be a challenge.
You also know that success in exams is increasingly reliant on them applying their knowledge and having an in-depth understanding of research methods: a depth of understanding which really only comes from completing actual research.
AQA, OCR and Edexcel understand this and either require students to complete short pieces of research or recommend they do so, as preparation for their exams.
The Northern Ireland Branch of The British Psychological Society (NIBPS), in partnership with the Psychology Departments of Ulster University, The Open University and Queens University Belfast would like to support you, and help encourage your students, by inviting them to complete a short piece of research and present it at a student conference tailored exclusively to AS and A2 students.
The aim of the conference is to provide students with an opportunity and a forum, which will showcase their skills, provide a heightened sense of what it is like to complete research, promote their work (which they may already be doing with you) and provide content for their UCAS applications. Students participating in the conference will get a “real feel” for what it is like to complete research, and as a result they will be better motivated and prepared, as they progress towards their exams.
The conference is a practical way of delivering a significant part of your specification.
