Motivating students, ensuring their best in exams and helping them relate their learning to real life can be a challenge.
Success in exams is increasingly reliant on them applying their knowledge and having an in-depth understanding of research methods, which really only comes from completing actual research.
AQA, OCR and Edexcel understand this and either require students to complete short pieces of research or recommend they do so, as preparation for their exams.
The Northern Ireland Branch of The British Psychological Society Prizes would like to support and encourage students, by inviting them to complete a short piece of research and present it at a student conference tailored exclusively to AS and A2 students.
Aims
The aim of the conference is to provide students with an opportunity and a forum, which will showcase their skills, provide a heightened sense of what it is like to complete research, promote their work (which they may already be doing with you) and provide content for their UCAS applications.
Students participating in the conference will get a “real feel” for what it is like to complete research, and as a result they will be better motivated and prepared, as they progress towards their exams. The conference is a practical way of delivering a significant part of your specification.
We are also running a competition on the day of the student conference, where two presentations will be selected to go forward to the Northern Ireland Branch Annual Conference one at AS level and one at A2 Level. In addition, the two presentations will have their abstracts published in the conference book, which could be significant in UCAS applications.
