Manipulation and bullying is a serious issue, pervading many areas of public and private life from cyberbullying of school children to abusive close relationships. It can have damaging impacts on individuals, relationships, school, work and social life.
Applying some ideas from discursive psychology to this sensitive topic, the focus will be specifically on manipulative strategies used by Trump in news conferences, interviews and on Twitter and why these can be successful in particular contexts. Understanding such strategies and contexts can reveal counter-strategies to discourage and resist bullying. The session will include a presentation but will allow plenty of time for discussion.
