The theme of this year’s world mental health day is ‘Young people and mental health in a changing world’.
We know that good mental health begins early in life, and is particularly influenced by our relationships with our primary caregivers. This relationship between parent and child is referred to as an attachment.
Sometimes this attachment can be secure and healthy, but for around 30% of the population, their attachment is insecure and can lead to mental health difficulties later in life.
Our event will begin with a documentary film called ‘Help me love my baby’, which was produced by Channel 4. It follows Dr Amanda Jones, a Parent-Infant therapist in her work to help a mother experiencing difficulties bonding with her children to develop loving attachments.
Panel presentations will consider the impact of early attachment on mental health within differing social contexts, and there will be opportunities for audience contributions following the panel presentations.
