'Remembering Conall' - Psychology Staff & Students Run in Memory of Conall McGuinness
On Sunday 1st May, a number of School of Psychology staff and students took part in the Belfast City Marathon in memory of our dearly missed Level 1 student, Conall McGuinness.
Professor Teresa McCormack, Head of School of Psychology, said:
“The School of Psychology was delighted to be able to fundraise for the charity ItsGood2talk in memory of our first-year student Conall McGuinness, alongside teams and runners from Conall's family and friends. The turnout from the School was amazing, all in striking pink t-shirts! It was great to be able to meet up with Conall's family on the day, which made it feel like a real collective effort. We were also able to share with them news about a new prize for first year students that we are setting up in memory of Conall."
Three relay teams successfully completed the marathon, as well as our very own Professor Rhiannon Turner who completed the full 26 miles. Rhiannon said:
“It was important to all of us in the school to honour the memory of Conall, and to raise money for Good2Talk, the charity nominated by Conall's parents. The day started with some rain, but fortunately it brightened up early into the marathon, and a great day was had by all of us. The atmosphere was brilliant, with spectators cheering runners on all along the route, and it was especially nice to see other team members and supporters in their distinctive pink 'Remembering Conall' t-shirts around the course. Most importantly, several thousand pounds were raised for a very important cause.”
The School’s relay teams consisted of Dr Debbie Wells, Dr Joost Dessing, Dr Mihalis Doumas, Dr Emma Berry, Dr Elida Cena, Dr Agnieszka Graham, Dr Ruth Lee, Dr Gillian Shorter, Dr Ioana Latu, Dr Sara Lorimer. Along with four students Emer Murray, Ciaran Canning, Alaina Macri, Caitlin Drain.
“Together, with staff as well as our fantastic undergraduate and postgraduate students, we had a wonderful and emotional day. On behalf of all the runners, I would like to thank everyone who donated to this worthwhile cause and cheered us on along the way. We are truly grateful for your support and generosity.” – Dr Agnieszka Graham
"There was a real sense of camaraderie and positivity on the day which seems all too fitting as Conall was known for his friendly and supportive nature. We're grateful for those who donated to Good2Talk and cheered us on along the way." – Dr Sara Lorimer
Well done to everyone involved!
