Students' Union Award Nomination for Psychology student Samirah
Samirah Binte Mohd Amir has been nominated under the "Supporting Our Community" category
Congratulations to Samirah Binte Mohd Amir (Level 2, BSc Psychology) who has been nominated under the “Supporting Our Community” category as part of the Students' Union Awards 2021.
Samirah has been involved with the Student Voice Committee, Peer Mentor, Psychology student newsletter, and been involved in student recruitment activities.
Dr Agnieszka Jaroslawska said about her nomination:
“Samirah’s exemplary commitment to her fellow students reflects the very best of Queen’s. She has been a vocal and effective student representative, demonstrating a warm and generous spirit to support students adjusting to a new way of life and a new mode of study.
Samirah has provided encouragement and support for first year students finding their feet at the start of their university journey. In a time of great uncertainty, she was willing to invest the time and energy to reach out to new students and serve as a role model and a source of information and support. She has been a trusted ally for her mentees and has worked with them and on behalf of their best interests and goals.
She has taken the time out of her busy studies to write a blog for her peers to offer some comfort and hope during this challenging year. Not only has she been brave enough to share her own feelings and hardships as an international student far away from home, but she has also offered sage advice to other students who are feeling lonely and homesick this year
Samirah understands that campus isn’t just a place we go to for classes – campus is a community. We are extraordinarily lucky to have her in our midst and she is a most deserving nominee”.
Samirah said about the nomination:
"I am very honoured to be nominated for the SU Awards (Supporting Our Community). I feel delighted to be given the opportunity to represent my peers in Level 2 and working as a peer mentor. During this challenging year, I have learnt the importance of being a part of the school community and representing and helping my fellow class mates through this academic year as best as I can. Through my participation in events hosted by the School, the Student Voice Committee and being a Level 2 representative has given me the chance to get to know more of my class mates and school staff, albeit virtually. These opportunities have shaped me to be a better individual and a team player. I hope to be able to continue contributing to the school community in the upcoming academic year."
The Students' Union Awards will be streamed live on 22 April at: https://qubsu.org/YourUnion/SUAwards2021/
