This workshop will consider the Micro-Fiction form and how a writer might approach the tough challenge of writing whole stories in 100 words in less. Tea and Coffee will be provided.

Emily DeDakis is a writer, producer and dramaturg from the southeast U.S., now based in North Belfast. She currently works with Fighting Words NI, a creative writing centre for young people, where she co-mentors and coordinates teen playwriting projects. As a dramaturg, Emily has developed dozens of scripts and performances including immersive, 24-hour, multimedia, verbatim and dance theatre. She received a BBC Performing Arts Fund dramaturgy fellowship, and has taught playwriting at Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University. Recent writing includes BECAUSE SWIPING MADE MY GRANDSON STOP BELIEVING IN LOVE (BBC Radio 4, 2022), TWO BY TWO: A SAILORTOWN FABLE (Household Belfast, 2021), DRIVING MUSIC (Quills That Whisper, 2020), THE GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE FOR BYGONE PHALLIC SYMBOLS (Origin Theatre NYC & Lyric Theatre, 2020) and LAST NIGHT IN BELFAST (BBC 3, 2019).
