Gemma Cherry PhD student

Q-Step Centre presence at Royal Statistical Society conference

Dr Emma Calvert
School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work

School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work doctoral student Gemma Cherry represented our Q-Step Centre at the Royal Statistical Society conference in Glasgow this semester. Gemma was invited to participate as part of a panel focusing on the experiences of undergraduates who had participated in Q-Step placement schemes in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

‘I really enjoyed being able to talk about my undergraduate Q-Step placement experience and how it contributed to my success in gaining a PhD studentship from the Department for the Economy.  It was great having the opportunity to meet a range of experts in the field of quantitative social research’.

Gemma, a graduate of our BA (Hons) Sociology programme, went on to complete our MRes course and is now a funded PhD student with us.  Her research focusses on the area of education attainment (supported by the Administrative Data Research Centre NI).
